Maple was formed in Dallas, Texas in 1986 to develop and invest in traditional energy activities. In the United-States, Maple owned ten gas-processing plants, approximately 1300km of natural gas gathering and transmission infrastructure. It processed approximately 175 MMcfd of wellhead gas at its facilities and produced approximately 140 MMcfd of residue natural gas and 15,600 bpd of natural gas liquids. Those assets were sold in 1991.

South-America

Maple started its international ventures in South America, with the development of a Gas to liquids and electricity (175MW) project in the Peruvian jungle, near the city of Pucalpa (the Aguaytia Project). The $275 million project was financed in 1996 and construction completed in 1998.

The Peruvian assets of Maple also include an oil refinery in the same area, whose control and management was won through an international tender.
Maple is currently constructing a $254 million sugar cane to ethanol for the production of 35 million gallons and cogeneration of 37MW of electricity, in the northern coast of Peru.

In 2007, all the Peruvian assets were placed in ‘Maple Energy plc’, a public vehicle listed on the London (Aim) and Lima stock exchange. The original shareholders still maintain an important holding along with high profile institutional shareholders (pension funds, private equity funds)
